This is a video of a typical old style kennel design with
dogs facing each other, all shut out into the runs facing each other
with nowhere to hide and get away, dogs can see all the activity
of dogs staff and visitors moving to the reception area and going
for walks. This all generates 'negative' excitement (barking & frustration)
and high amounts of stress.
These 33 kennels are small, single-sized, single
block, no insulation or acoustic measures, mesh partitions between
exercise runs, gaps under partitions, no outlook or landscaping to
attract wildlife for the dogs to watch, no toys, little or no bedding,
dark kennels, unhygienic and therefore smelly - the combination of
issues all reflect outdated thinking.
