Andrei kindly sent us some photos of the pet kennels
for his own dogs. They have the run of their courtyard during the day. Building
work is about to commence on the main kennels.

"Thank you for your interest regarding how it goes with our kennel
construction.
Last year I wasn't able to start the construction of the kennel because
very late we obtained the authorisation of construction. So we will start
soon, I had to make some changes of the location.
But last year we constructed a smaller kennel for our dogs with four
compartments, near our house. It wasn't made after the plans purchased
from you. It doesn't has a runspace because during the day dogs are
allowed in the courtyard
We have some problems with it, maybe you can help us.
-
problem: we put on the ground some epoxy based painted with sand in it.
But it is a very big problem that although it has sand in it, the ground
is very slippery for the dogs and especially for the puppies. Can you
recomend us another solution or material to put on the ground of the
kennel?
Answer:
The anti-slip properties of the sand depend on the coarseness of the sand & the
amount used (scattered & embedded) into the epoxy paint. It sounds as if
you have used a fine sand and used it sparingly. The level of anti-slip is always
a compromise in order to achieve ease of cleaning and also be suitable for the
dogs. It might be worth experimenting with some different grades of sand or carobundrum
grit in order to achieve a satisfactory result. Are you looking to use local
products, or will you be importing? If you are importing, there is certainly
a wide range of products available.
Generally, the paint type products do not withstand the daily cleaning & usage
in a kennel environment. In the long term, it might be worth looking to see what
suitable floor tiles are available locally to you, and use your pet kennels as
a trial for your larger scale kennel development plans.

Phonic problems. when the dogs are barking the noise is great. What
solution or material you recomend us to resolve this problem? I have to
mention that on the walls we have tiles 1.5 meter high from ground all
round the kennel. Ceiling is made of plasterboard.
Answer:
This is a common problem to all kennels. You need to install a acoustic
type board at high level in order to help absorb the noise. This is normally
achieved by fitting a soft-faced board with an acoustic matting on the reverse
side. These are very common in suspended ceilings used in all sorts of building
such as schools, gyms etc. It might be worth trying to contact a suspended ceiling
company to see what they have. Your photos suggest that you don't have a large
area to cover, but it will make a noticeable difference.
